Taking Up Golf

Golf has always been a popular sport among many different people. It is often associated with executive businessmen and while it is true that golf is a particularly popular choice with many businessmen, it is also popular in other walks of life. There are a number of good reasons to take up golf but the only real way to find out if it is a good choice for you is to give it a go. You should be able to borrow or rent some clubs in order to play a couple of rounds of golf because a set of clubs can prove fairly expensive if you only use them a couple of times before putting them in the attic.
Golf is a healthy sport. As well as getting you out in the fresh air it also exercises the heart, the lungs and many muscles when you are walking round the course. It may not seem much, but playing a round of golf every week is a very good way of helping to prevent heart disease and other illnesses.
Golf can be a good way to socialize. Visiting the clubhouse after a round of golf gives you the opportunity to meet new people and chat to friends about how your round went and your life in general. As another aspect of this, it also gives you the opportunity to network if you are a businessman.
The modern golf game is centered around perfect shots, scientific practice and ability. Gone are the days of wearing plus fours and cloth caps and in are the days of larger heads, metal woods and graphite shafts. While talent and ability are obviously the most important factors, there is certainly a lot of equipment around that claims to improve different aspects of your game.

Imagine there is a line drawn from the toes of your rear foot to the toes of your front foot and continuing on down the fairway. This is the path to which you are aiming your shot. If you're looking for some good golf swing drills to practice this is a good one, place a club or broom stick across the front of your feet and step away to see where you've aimed your shot. Most beginner golfers realize that they weren't aimed where they wanted at all. The best fix for this is to pick a point 120-240 in front of you that is in line with where you want to aim. Square your stance up to that point rather then trying to aim for a spot one hundred or more yards down the fairway. This will drastically improve your accuracy and allow you to concentrate more on hitting the ball well.

I can�t tell you how many people come to my lesson tee and say, �If I could just get rid of my baseball swing, then all my problems would be solved!� My initial thought is always: I wish you had a baseball swing, because it would help you play better golf.

Heel shots, scoobies, go rights, or the dreaded "S" word are caused by one thing -- "coming over the top." Coming over the top or swinging across your downward swingpath is perhaps the most common swing fault in golf. The path or arc of the golf swing should be circular (about 45 degrees) on the backswing and a little less circular (about 43 degrees) on the downswing. That variance in plane is called swinging inside. A great cure for coming over the top is to let your right shoulder (for R/H players) come UNDERNEATH your chin on your downswing. You may also feel that you are hitting the ball (in baseball terms) to right field. Dropping your right shoulder will free up the club to extend out toward your target and eliminate the possibility of Mr. Scoobie!

Drivers. The latest technology has enabled drivers to be oversized, to a maximum legal size of 460 cc. Most oversizes are made of titanium or a composite of titanium/non-metals which makes them very lightweight. Drug testing delayed for British Open

Drug testing at the British Open at Royal Birkdale will be delayed a year because some international players have not been exposed to doping education programs.
Royal & Ancient chief executive Peter Dawson said Tuesday the British Open was not ready to begin the testing program because of the tournament's international qualifying system. He expects anti-doping controls will be in place for the 2009 championship at Turnberry.
